About Me
I am a collector of walking sticks – a Rabologist, and joint Chariman of The Antique Walking Cane Society, based in London. I am also a member of The International Society of Cane Collectors based in the USA, and regularly attend Canemania – an International Cane Convention.
Collecting has always been my passion; amassing my first collection – books, at the tender age of nine. Growing up, I had little in the way of personal possessions, so when I married Deanna, we bought affordable Victorian furniture to fill our new home. In the 1970’s our enthusiasm to acquire a wide range of antiques and collectables grew and I became fascinated with writing instruments, nibs, pencils and early pens. In 1998 it was my wife, Deanna, who bought me a few walking canes and that is when my passion as a Rabologist began.

The Book
I have recently released a book called ‘A Visual History of Walking Sticks & Canes’ which is a comprehensive study of walking sticks and canes from around the world, dating from the distant past to the modern day.

Book Reviews
Since the book was released I’ve had some lovely reviews and feedback, some of which you can see below.
You have a very trained eye that can spot a high-quality cane sitting in a large group of canes offered to you.
I see your whole hearts and minds in it, a personal and professional opus! And an inspiration for both old and new collectors.
The A&D Walking Collection
The A&D Collection started back in 1998 when my wife brought me a few walking canes, and in the process starting my passion as a Rabologist.
To date, the collection spans over 1,000 canes, ranging from over 40 different categories including professional, medical, mythology and many more. You can view a full list of the categories in the index of my book here.
At the moment we have over 6,000 photos of the collection, so unfortunately it isn’t possible for us to show them all, but I have added a few below or you can view more on my other website here.
You can also keep up to date with the collection over on my Instagram.
